7 caprices and duo merveille - Niccolò Paganini

Ulysse Delécluse, a clarinet teacher who needs no introduction, arranged 17 of Niccolò Paganini's 24 Caprices for violin in his time.
 
These pieces, gathered in a booklet ending with the Mouvement Perpétuel, have been played by countless graduate students. Moreover, how many times have they been imposed in competitions or exams, so well known are they for their musicality and technicality on the clarinet.

But why only 17? This is the question that Jacky Thérond asked himself. This one proposes us the 7 other "missing" Caprices in the Delécluse booklet. The last and 24th caprice has been the subject of many other arrangements, but often alone in the edition. The arrangement proposed by Jacky Thérond tries to stay as close as possible to the original version, even if the violinistic effects are far from being obvious to transcribe to the clarinet.

This collection ends with a duet, which can also be found as the last piece of the revised edition of the 24 Caprices of Paganini by the pedagogue Emil Kross published by Carl Fischer Inc. For this duet, Emil Kross warns that although the original version is written for one violin, but so difficult in the pizzicati, it is best played by two players.
