Cydalise et le chèvre pied - 1ère suite d'orchestre

Created in 1923 at the Paris Opera, the ballet Cydalise et le chèvre-pied is one of Gabriel Pierné's most beautiful pages. The story takes place in the park of the Palace of Versailles. In the middle of the divinities of the waters and the woods, the nymph Mnésilla secretly loves Styrax. While a troupe of dancers comes to present Louis XIV with a comedy-ballet, Styrax falls in love with the first ballerina, Cydalise. It is at dawn that Styrax disappears, after having put his beautiful to sleep, not without having given her a last kiss.
From the original score, Gabriel Pierné extracts two orchestral suites. The 1st Suite had already been adapted for wind band, from the symphonic score, without however carrying out a complete transcription work, the string parts having been "distributed" to clarinets, saxophones and brass instruments. This new transcription is the result of an integral and thorough work, taking up the symphonic score as faithfully as possible, while having at heart to give to the wind band all its diversity and its own sonority.
