Trois Chansons à Marie - Jean-Michel Ferran
For baritone, viola and piano
Within the sublime poetic ocean that is Amours from Pierre de Ronsard, the difficult choice of these poems was guided by several criteria: to belong to the collection inspired by Marie, to be entitled Chanson, to contain no mythological reference, and above all to offer, in three "freeze-frames", the synthesis of the story of an unhappy love, from the ardors of its awakening to the painful torments of the unquenchable passion.
In this cycle, which must be performed without interruption, the piano and viola play a narrative and poetic role as important as the vocal part; thus, the Prelude and the instrumental Interludes that link the Chansons evoke this unspeakable background that words are powerless to express.
